Transformed a major Australian SaaS company's monolithic platform into a cutting-edge serverless microservices architecture, enabling the unicorn startup to scale from 300K to 5M+ users across the Asia-Pacific region. This comprehensive modernization project involved decomposing a legacy PHP monolith into 40+ serverless microservices, implementing event-driven architecture, and establishing world-class DevOps practices.

The Challenge

The client's monolithic architecture couldn't handle rapid user growth, resulting in frequent outages during peak usage. Infrastructure costs were skyrocketing ($180K/month), deployment cycles took 2-3 weeks, and the team couldn't iterate quickly enough to compete with international SaaS providers. The system experienced 99.2% of capacity during business hours, leaving no room for growth or geographic expansion.

Our Solution

Architected a complete serverless transformation using AWS Lambda functions orchestrated through EventBridge for loose coupling. Implemented Domain-Driven Design principles to decompose the monolith into bounded contexts, built a comprehensive API gateway layer with GraphQL federation, and established Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK. Created automated CI/CD pipelines with comprehensive testing, monitoring, and alerting systems for production reliability.
